you joined the JTB Group.

After graduating from University, I got a job at a bank as a customer service representative. I found that my role was very routine and not a job I wanted for my long term career. After working at the bank for a year, I was hired by Silkway Holidays, a wholesale division of Silkway Travel & Cruise Inc., as an air desk reservations representative. I found this role very interesting and was able to learn new things every day. Then I realized I was very passionate about the travel industry and would like to develop my long term career in this field. As years passed, Silkway has given me many opportunities to work in various departments and to be exposed to many horizons in the industry. I am now working in the sales and marketing department and am responsible for the product planning and sales promotion to sub agents/ local agencies. I hope to continue to contribute to the company’s success for many years to come.

My current position at Silkway is Sales and Marketing/Product Development Executive. My main responsibilities are promoting the sales activities by communicating with our sub agents across Western Canada through sales visits, emails and webinars etc. My job is to help contribute to the company’s success by retaining key sub agents for repeated business, finding potential new sub agents for partnership and developing new ideas to meet with their needs. Being first to the market and staying ahead of the competition is always the ideal in trying to achieve in the marketplace, but it is not always achievable. At minimum, my team members and I try to make sure we are keeping up with the demands of our industry and always stay on top of product changes. It is important to maintain open lines of communication with the sub agents by providing them with product trainings. Also, this job provides me with opportunities to participate in different tradeshows and familiarization tours, which helps to expand my business networking channels with various tourism authorities and airlines.

The most rewarding part of my job is being able to communicate with many professionals in the industry and to learn from them. Also, I get to travel around the world, getting many opportunities to learn and enjoy local cultures. At the same time, I am able to share my experience and new findings with my colleagues and friends. Last but not least, my experience has helped me in developing new travel programs for travellers to enjoy.
